Purohit Performs Hanuman Homa

1. Preparations:

   • Clean and Sacred Space: The area where the homa is conducted is cleaned and sanctified. A Homa Kund (fire altar) is set up, and it is decorated with flowers, turmeric, and kumkum.
   • Idol or Picture of Lord Hanuman: A sacred image or idol of Lord Hanuman is placed near the Homa Kund. It is decorated with garlands, sindoor (vermilion), and flowers.
   • Offerings: Items like ghee, sesame seeds, camphor, coconuts, red sandalwood paste, betel leaves, fruits, and special prasad are gathered.
   • Mantra Recitation: The Purohit prepares for the ritual by meditating and chanting Hanuman Mantras to invoke divine energy.

2. Purification (Achamana) and Sankalpa:

   • The Purohit performs Achamana, a purification ritual where water is sipped and sprinkled to cleanse the mind and body.
   • A Sankalpa (intention or vow) is made, stating the purpose of the homa (e.g., for protection, success, or spiritual growth). The names of the devotees and their ancestral lineage are also recited as part of the Sankalpa.

3. Invocation of Lord Ganesha:

   • The ritual begins by invoking Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, to ensure the smooth completion of the homa.
   • Prayers and offerings are made to Lord Ganesha, including modaks (sweets) and flowers.

4. Preparation of the Fire:

   • The sacred fire is lit in the Homa Kund using firewood and dried cow dung cakes, symbolizing purity.
   • Camphor and ghee are added to keep the fire steady and auspicious.

5. Worship of Lord Hanuman:

   • The Purohit offers prayers to Lord Hanuman, chanting Hanuman Chalisa and Hanuman Gayatri Mantra:
     • "Om Anjaneyaya Vidmahe Vayuputraya Dheemahi Tanno Hanumat Prachodayat."
   • Devotees are encouraged to chant along, focusing on Lord Hanuman’s virtues of strength and devotion.

6. Offerings into the Fire:

   • The priest offers ghee, sesame seeds, rice, and other sacred items into the fire while chanting powerful Hanuman Mantras and Sundarakanda shlokas (from the Ramayana).

     • "Om Shree Hanumate Namah Swaha"

7. Recitation of Sundarakanda:

   • In many Hanuman Homas, portions of the Sundarakanda (the chapter from the Ramayana that highlights Hanuman’s heroic deeds) are recited. This enhances the potency of the ritual and invokes Lord Hanuman’s blessings.

   • Sindoor (Vermilion): As sindoor is sacred to Lord Hanuman, it is offered during the ritual.
   • Betel Leaves and Fruits: These are added to the fire as a sign of devotion.
   • Coconuts: Symbolizing the breaking of ego and surrender to Lord Hanuman, coconuts are offered with chants.

9. Aarti:

   • The homa concludes with the Hanuman Aarti, where camphor is lit and waved in front of Lord Hanuman’s idol or picture.

10. Prasad Distribution:

    • The sacred ash (Vibhuti) from the fire is distributed to devotees as a blessing.
